Solar Energy Advantages Disadvantages
So what’s solar energy? It’s an alternative energy source widely used by consumers to save energy costs. The sun’s energy is free. You can harness it through a process called photovoltaic that generates photo-electricity. Sunlight falls on photovoltaic cells, commonly called solar panels, which promptly convert solar rays into electricity. There’s a good side and a bad side to solar energy, as I’ll explain below:

1. Advantages of Solar Energy
# Cheap Source of Energy
Everyone’s touting the horn of solar energy, saying it’s a lot cheaper than electricity from the utility company. And they’re right. Conventionally produced electricity requires petroleum as the energy source to fuel combustion. As the cost of fossil fuel rises, electricity costs jump and utility bills shoot up. But with solar energy, you’re relying on the sun for your electricity. And you don’t pay a dime to the power utility company.
# No Pollution of Environment
In a power plant, you’ve got to burn petroleum or coal for energy. When those things burn, believe me, they give out plenty of smoke and debris, polluting the environment. And then you get a bigger hole in the ozone layer.
And we all know what that means, right? Radiation from harmful ultra violet rays! I don’t want to get cancer, do you? Solar energy doesn’t emit hazardous gases or other pollutants into the environment.
That’s another great thing about this alternative energy source – zero pollution levels.
# Multiple Energy Use
There are so many things you can do with solar energy. You can use it to heat the water in your swimming pool or home. You can flick on the lights at night or heat your home in winter. Heck, you can even pump water with solar water pumping!
2. Disadvantages of Solar Energy
# Space Requirements for Solar Panels
But it’s not all good news with solar energy. In an average sized household, you’d probably need about 10 to 12 square meters of solar panels. That’s quite a big space, if you ask me. So if you’re living in an apartment or high rise condominium, you’ve got space constraints. There won’t be nearly enough room for all the solar panels you’ll need.
# Deterioration of Solar Panel Frames
You know how the weather gets pretty bone chilling sometimes? Well, that’s the type of condition that’ll cause your solar panels to deteriorate. Fast. That means no electricity for your home. Solar panel mountings get done in pretty quick too. They’ve got be replaced consistently. So, unless you keep to a strict repair and maintenance regime, you could either find yourself living in the dark or you get cold water from the hot water tap. And in the fall, you’ll get water-logged leaves on your solar panels. Oh and by the way, bird droppings reduce the efficiency of your solar panels by about 7% per annuity.
Regardless of the good and the bad, thankfully there’s no ugly side to solar energy. Not yet, anyway. So get the best deal in solar energy from the experts! Click on the link now!
