What are renewable sources of energy ? That is the first question which we should ask ourselves when we are trying to opt for renewable energy sources to solve the problem of power. Now you might have guessed the meaning from the name itself. Truly, renewable sources of energy are those which can be replaced or are being replaced as we use them. The sun, the wind, water etc are renewable sources of energy because no matter how much we use them, the quantity remains the same. These energy producers are renewed every moment.

However, renewable sources of energy are not the same as alternative sources of energy. Renewable sources come under alternative sources but are not the same. Alternative sources include nuclear power etc which once depleted cannot be renewed. So, our solar, wind and hydro energy are the three renewable energies available to us.

Now, how do we harness these sources of energy to fulfill our energy demands? Well the energy of the sun is captured through the help of solar panels and then we can use it. Similarly for wind there are the windmills and for water there is the water mill. Both of these devices help produce electricity which is then used by us for various purposes. But what benefits do we derive from these renewable sources of energy and why should we opt for them over the conventional coal and petroleum?

Well the reasons are many and by the end of this article you will find out exactly why you need to use these renewable sources of energy. To start, coal and petroleum will not be available after a few years. Even if they are available, the demand will be so high that most people will not be in a state to afford them.

Also, these sources produce a high amount of environmental pollution. It is all because of this pollution that the atmosphere of the earth is undergoing such drastic changes and is getting hotter by the day. All the polar ice caps are melting fast and we are under serious threat of a world wide flood if the pollution does not stop. Pollution also causes severe diseases which may lead to death.

Now, if we were to talk about renewable energy, the first thing we could say was, it is completely environment friendly. These sources when utilized produce no harmful emissions or carbon leftovers which may harm the already deteriorating environment.

Then, they are cheap and extremely cost effective. You do not have to pay your electric bills and get complete energy independence. Wind mills can run generators for lifting water and supplying household power. Solar panels can even help you cook and heat your water for laundry. Water mills have been in use since the old ages for producing electricity. Almost all the waterfalls in the world are harness able for the production of electricity.

So when you have so very good sources of electricity then why use the conventional sources? Use renewable sources of energy and make the world a better place to live in.
